Welcome to Friday Fishbird Flicks đ˝ – wherein I watch a movie that everyone has already seen, and talk very briefly about it so we can get on with other things đ¤Š
This evening I watched âThe Greatest Showmanâ – the 2017 movie starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Keala Settle and Michelle Williams. What a great show!! đ I really enjoyed it! đ 8.5 Fishbirds out of 10.
I actually saw Hugh Jackman in his âBroadway To Ozâ concert in 2015 when he did a song or two from âThe Greatest Showmanâ movie that I assume he was in the middle of filming at the time. Of course I was yelling politely (in my head) – âShut up and sing âLes Miserables!ââ at the time. But if Hugh was in my living room right now, I would happily pop some corn for myself and Deb & clap along with his live soundtrack, now that Iâve got some context. đ
7 minutes in to the film, I was like, no YOUâRE crying! 51 minutes in … no YOUâRE crying! 57 minutes … no YOUâRE STILL crying! 1:17:30, no YOUâRE gasping in alarm! 1:18:10 … I love you elephants! 1:24:08 … crying again; 1:26:08 CHEERING!; 1:30:16 … whoops, crying again; 1:33 elephants are back!! đ
I thought the choreography was fantastic and really added to the film – usually I barely notice it, so well done cast!
My only note, was wondering why the bearded lady shaved her armpits?? That seriously sent me down a womenâs shaving history rabbit hole on the internet, to check social timeframes & I had to pause the film.
Anyway, I paired the movie with a few glasses of La Boheme Act Three Yarra Valley Pinot Gris & had a great time joining the circus.
Of course, at the end of the movie I jumped on YouTube and had a ‘we did it, guys!’ cry watching this early-stages sing through with the fabulous Keala Settle đ
