Friday Fishbird Flicks : “1922”

Friday Fishbird Flicks 📽 – wherein I watch a movie that everyone has already seen, and talk very briefly about it so we can get on with other things 🤩

For those playing along at home, I missed last Friday as I was travelling and had dodgy internet access. So to butter up the popcorn gods, I thought I’d do a Monday movie catch up. Also, the chance to drink wine on a Monday? Priceless!

I decided on “1922” the 2017 movie based on the Stephen King novella of the same name – starring Thomas Jane, Dylan Schmid, Molly Parker, Rats and Neal McDonough.

For the record, Stephen King is my all time favourite author. I will happily reverse a vintage car into an old timey bank, to buy a copy of whatever he writes. His movies however, are usually misses and sadly I couldn’t fall in love with this one.

Mostly because if I did, a rat would shoot out of my mouth. This movie has a LOT of rats (none of which (FYI) are in my mouth).

If you don’t love rats I’d suggest watching the movie with a bucket you can scream into. Not a KFC bucket, you probably won’t get hungry. Also you might look down and see a rat in your chicken, wearing a Colonel Sanders bow tie.

This is Stephen king remember & he’s a tricksy fellow.

Apart from the gross out rat factor … did I just come up with a new talent show?? … the wonderful Thomas Jane has such a thick country accent, that I can only assume he’s talking with a rat in each cheek. I’m skeeving myself out with all this rat talk btw.

I did like looking at the corn fields, until I pictured Pennywise tilling the fields in dungarees, then it just got weird.

I paired the movie with a few glasses of Road To Enlightenment Riesling & got far too dizzy for a school night. Four Fishbirds out of Ten. 🎥🎞🐀

Do you love Stephen King as much as I do? Which of his books or short stories do you think has fared the best in terms of adaptations?
