Friday Fishbird Flicks 📽 – wherein I watch a movie that everyone has already seen, and talk very briefly about it so we can get on with other things 🤩.
This week I saw the 2018 horror film “Hereditary” starring Toni Collette, Gabriel Byrne, Milly Shapiro, Alex Wolff and Ann Dowd.
Why do I watch these things, lol 😂 I spent the evening feeling anxious and creeped out … so I give it 7 Fishbirds out of 10.
I felt that this picture hit home due to the fantastic acting by all involved & the time spent developing a realistic connection between the characters. I believed the relationships between each of the family members, which made the ensuing events more harrowing.
Toni Collette did a wonderful job as grief stricken daughter and mother. I was also delighted to see Ann Dowd again, who I’ve loved since her stint in “The Leftovers”.
The movie didn’t rely on jump scares, which was refreshing & did a good job freaking me out with jerky possessed roof-hovering creeps instead 🙂
Overall there was a lovely mix of the supernatural and human frailty that made for a fun ride.
Hot tip though, if you’re being chased by anyone – let alone your possessed mother – don’t run up into the attic. Also don’t put space heaters in your tree house, that’s a fire hazard.
I paired this ghoulish flick with a glass of Arido Grenache Rose, as I peeked out from behind the couch cushions 🤭
