Friday Fishbird Flicks 📽 – wherein I watch a movie that everyone has already seen, and talk very briefly about it so we can get on with other things 🤩.
This time I watched the 2018 film, “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” starring Tim Blake Nelson, James Franco, Zoe Kazan, Liam Neeson, Tom Waits, Bill Heck, Brendan Gleeson and a bunch of other talented peeps.
This movie is actually an anthology of six short films that take place in the 19th-century post-Civil War era during the settling of the Old West. Think less ‘Little House on the Prairie’ and more ‘Coen-esque gunslinger shoot-em-up’.
This movie has singing sharp-shooters, bank-robbing cattle-rustlers, an unlucky travelling thespian & his clucky rival act, a gold-fossicking frontiersman, a love story & a spooky coach ride 🙂
I enjoyed it!
While not necessarily a feel-good movie, this film was beautifully shot and was well acted by a lot of different famous faces.
The short story format surprisingly sustained my interest & I’d recommend it if you’re looking for something new to check out on Netflix.
8 Fishbirds out of 10 🤠🎬
I paired this movie with a few glasses of Taylor’s Promised Land Shiraz, while panning for gold down the back of the couch.
